Deep Creek Lake 2010

We just got back from a great trip to Deep Creek Lake in western Maryland. We went with Katie, Joel, Marybeth and Aziz and we had a great time! The trip was a celebration of our (KT, MB, and myself) 30th birthdays! MB even brought some 30th birthday decorations to hang in the cabin so no one forgot that it was our birthday weekend :) It was so nice to catch up with my old college roomies.

We left for our trip on Friday morning around 9am. Adam slept almost the entire trip there (3.5 hours) and did not cry once (don't worry... he made up for it on the way home!). We did not have to make one stop which also helped us to arrive there quickly. A good part of the drive is a scenic byway so the view was beautiful. Plus, the weather was perfect which made it even better! We met MB and Aziz at a great brewing company for lunch before we could get the keys to our cabin/house. We sat outside and enjoyed a pretty view of the mountain and farmland. Owen loved watching the tractors in the field.
After lunch we got the keys and went back to the house which was gorgeous!! It had 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, a hot tub and a huge deck. Aziz brought his boat so Mike helped him get it into the water while we waited for KT and Joel to arrive.

We decided the best way to handle meals was for each couple to take a night and cook dinner. Deep Creek has some really nice restaurants, but everything is pretty expensive and it can be tricky taking two kids out to dinner especially if they are tired. Mike and I made Mexican the first night. We had chips, salsa, and margaritas for appetizers and played Mexican music during dinner :) After dinner, we put both boys to bed, and had a camp fire and all hung out in the hot tub. It was lots of fun!

On Saturday, the boys (including Owen) got up early and went out on the lake to play. They water skied and wake boarded. Then, Mike watched Adam in the afternoon while Owen and I went out on the boat for a while. Saturday night Katie and Joel made a delicious pasta dinner with shrimp and veggies. We had a camp fire again on Saturday night, but needed coffee to stay awake. We were laughing at how old we've become that instead of drinking beer by the fire we are drinking coffee. ha! The weather was perfect the entire time we were there. In fact, in the mornings and evenings we wore sweatshirts.

On Sunday, we all went to breakfast and then Mike took Owen for a ride on the kayak while we followed in Aziz's boat. We hung out on the boat for a little in the morning, but then Mike and I took the boys back to the cabin for naps. After napping we went back to the brewery to listen to a blue grass band and then went to ride some go-karts. There was a sun walking around and Mike got his picture taken with it... Owen was terrified of it.
My American Sweethearts
For our last dinner, MB and Aziz grilled chicken, veggies, and made yummy cucumber salad. Since it was the 4th of July, we ate outside "picnic style" on the deck and listened to "American" themed songs while Owen entertained us with his wild dancing and "b-tar" playing. He was quite the entertainer that evening! I snapped some videos of him and they are just priceless! He enjoyed watching his reflection in the glass door as he danced away. We had another campfire that evening and also had a great view of the fireworks. We had such a nice time at Deep Creek celebrating our 30th birthday. The lake is beautiful, the people are so friendly, and the views are incredible! Everyone was so kind to help us take care of the boys and play with them. Joel taught Owen some German, Aziz talked to Adam whenever he was fussy and he would laugh every time, and KT and MB did anything Owen asked of them and helped with both boys! We are already planning on another trip next summer to celebrate 31!

Here are two videos of Owen dancing at our 4th of July picnic.
