Wednesday Happies

After another trip to the doctor for both Adam and Owen, chest x-ray, ear infection for both boys, and antibiotics for both boys, we are finally on the mend.  Poor Papa and Finney caught it though since they were the ones watching the boys on some of the days they couldn't go to school and daycare.  I'm pretty sure the boys had the flu, despite both both having the flu mist.

We're trying to make the most of our time indoors on these long, dark, cold winter afternoons and evenings.  The other night the boys made their own little pizzas.
Many nights, Mike and the boys go into the basement (yes, our tiny, little basement) and play soccer.  They have tournaments down there.  As in, they choose their countries and wear real soccer jerseys.
Today was a big day for Owen.  First, he came home with an "official" letter from the principal.  He has been chosen as Student of the Week for his school.  He gets to choose things to display in the showcase in the school lobby.
He was also excited because he learned how to hula hoop in gym class and just had to show us the minute he got home!
Along with the letter from his principal, there was another letter in his backpack from his friend, Asher.
Cracked me up!!!  I told him to make sure he let's me know the date and location of his birthday party since I wasn't aware.  I guess he sent Asher a note telling him he wanted him to come to his party in April. He said he only sent one other invitation out, but he told his friend it wasn't the "real" one.  I guess it was just a "save the date":)

I had to include a recent picture that Adam drew.  He made it for his friend Haley.  We're all so excited for Aunt Beth and Uncle Eric's baby to arrive in 12 weeks.  I think he has baby on the brain.  This snowmom is pregnant with two babies-lucky her!

Ready for Spring

A few months ago I was talking to someone about how our boys are rarely sick.  I should have known the minute I say that, they are going to be sick.  We have had a rough month as far as sickness.

Before Christmas I had the stomach bug, then Owen got it.  Two weeks ago Adam got bronchitis and then a bad cold on top of that.  He finally started feeling better last week.
This past Sunday Owen started not feeling well with flu-like symptoms (fever, body aches, chest congestion, headache).  He's finally better today and back to school, but now poor Adam has it.  Both boys had the flu shot too.  So I'm home with Adam today, doing many loads of laundry and disinfecting in between caring for my sweet boy.
he was so exhausted he fell asleep with his hand in his snack cup
And even though I HATE seeing my kids sick, I don't mind the slower pace and extra snuggles I get when they aren't feeling well.

I am very much ready for spring- playing outside and windows open kind of weather.  I've had enough of this cold, snowy stuff.

Layin' Low

We've had a relaxing weekend and didn't do all that much.  Definitely needed after last weekend.  Friday night we stopped by Snitz Creek Brewery in downtown Lebanon.  Friends of ours have worked sooooooo hard to make this dream of theirs a reality and we're so excited for them!

Saturday night the boys went to a birthday party.  It was a Despicable Me theme.  Our boys will often talk to each other in Minion talk so this was right up their alley!
The rest of the weekend was spent running errands, cleaning, relaxing and camping (indoors).
I'm crossing my fingers that Owen wakes up feeling fine tomorrow morning.  Tonight before bed he had a low fever, headache, body aches, and was a little sick in his belly.  Poor guy was so worried he was getting the stomach bug again that it was making his stomach feel even more sick.

Papa Doc

Papa Doc passed away last night after 92 years.  Almost one year after Ollie.  I feel so fortunate to have had so much time with him, but even more fortunate that our boys were close with him.  When he and Ollie come up in conversations our boys know exactly who we are talking about and have fond memories of both their great grandparents.
I will never forget how much Papa Doc loved Ollie and how he cared for her when she no longer was able to care for herself, but was still living at home.

He was so appreciative of anything we did for him.  If we brought him dinner, he'd thank us over and over again.  He was always so appreciative of our visits to him at his house and then when he was in the nursing home.  If I needed a self-esteem boost, I'd go visit Papa Doc.  Often he'd tell me "You are a wonderful, wonderful person" which was nice to hear especially on days I wasn't feeling all that wonderful.

He will be missed, but I have a feeling he is much happier now holding hands with Ollie.

Another Day Off

We had off school last Friday and a late start yesterday (Monday) and today we are off again because of the extreme cold temps.  We did venture out for a little bit today and it's so cold you can barely breathe.  We went to Hobby Lobby and then on a top secret spy mission to find my mom at Boscovs.  We found her in the dress section.  Adam was intrigued by the manikins.  Some had chips in them, cracks in their faces, hands missing, feet missing, and some were headless.  That bought us a good 15 minutes until lunch and a few good laughs.  The two shoppers that were there must have thought we don't get out much.  Truthfully, I don't take the boys to department stores very often so headless manikins are rather exciting to them.

After a delicious lunch at Longhorn (love that place) we returned home to our warm house.

Here's some pictures to recap our recent days...

Both boys playing outside, building a snowman, and using their Snow Paint they got for Christmas

Adam got upset about something. I think Owen got mad at him and wanted to build his own snowman.

Dec. 31st I stocked up on lightbulbs.  In fact, I bought all the 40 and 60 watt bulbs they had available on the shelves.  The lady at KMart thought I was really strange until I explained to her that they are no longer making and/or allowed to sell regular lightbulbs in 2014.  I REALLY hate the lighting on the new lightbulbs so I think I'm good for a few years until they learn how to make a lightbulb with nice lighting that I can handle.
We've been spending a lot of time curled up on the couch watching YouTube video tutorials and making bracelets.  I think I might like bracelet making even more than Owen.
Our Eagles played Saturday night.  All 4 of us had our jerseys on and were hoping for a win.
We let Owen stay up because he's turned into a die-hard Eagles fan.  He ended up falling asleep a little after half time and was so bummed to hear they lost the next morning.
Mike carried him up to bed and I tried to get a picture just in case it's the last time Mike carries him up to bed... sniff sniff.
And now I'm off to nap with my boys :)

Happy New Year!

We had a very low-key New Years.  The four of us played games (Blokus and X Box) and we dressed Adam up and took pictures of him.  It was his idea to put on the mustache and Mike thought he needed a suit to compliment his mustache.  This kid is funny.  He is a boy of strong emotions that's for sure.  He loves hard, makes us laugh hard, and can get equally angry and upset and throw a tantrum like it's nobody's business.

The funniest part is we didn't have any music playing, yet it looks like he's jamming to a song.

I'm so thankful I decided to be a party pooper last night and go to bed at 9.  Owen was up at 5:30am with a bad dream about bugs and Adam was up at the same time with a nasty cough.  It's only 6:44am and I already have my good-luck pork and saurkraut in the crockpot.

Happy New Year!
