A Whole Lot of Nothing & a Little Something

I have not blogged since last week which is pretty long for me!  I usually have a lot to write about, but the past few days we've done nothing exciting or worthy of blogging about (or maybe I've just been too lazy).

Adam has been super fussy the past couple days.  Poor guy has a banged up face from falling on Friday, a nasty cold, and on top of all that, he's getting his 1 year molars.  Not a good combination.  He's woken up crying the past two nights.

Adam is really interested in learning to use his fork to eat.  It's so cute watching him pierce his food and get it into his mouth.  He's very proud of himself when he does:)

He also had fun feeding Cheerios to his pet alligator yesterday.
Last night I went with Mike to his Krav Maga class.  About a month ago we were playing Skip-Bo (a card game that my Ollie taught me to play when I was little and I've been addicted to ever since!).  It's much more fun when we place bets on our games so we played best out of three games and the loser had to go to the other person's exercise class.  If Mike won, I had to go to his Krav class.  If I won, he had to go to Zumba with me.  Well, it came down to two measly cards and he won.  However, we made another bet that if I could play my last two cards he had to go to Zumba with me... and I played them both.  He did really well at Zumba.  He has good rhythm and is a pretty good dancer whether he wants to admit it or not.  I wasn't very eager to go to his class.  It is so late (8:30-10pm) and it is during the Bachelor!  Plus, it's very strenuous and he was not sure I would even make it through the warm up.  Well, I made it through the warm up although I may have cheated just a tad!  The warm up was called "The Filthy Fifty" and it was grueling.  After that, however, I learned some very important moves I can use if someone ever attacks me.  I practiced defending myself against a dummy, the instructor, and another lady that was there.  I learned how and where to hit someone to do some real damage should they ever try to hurt me.  At one point, we had to stand in the middle of a mat with our eyes closed and our partner would grab our arm and we had to fend them off of us.  As much as I was dreading the class, I ended up really liking it.  It's very empowering to know (even just a few) ways to defend yourself should you need to.  Hopefully I never need to!

This morning we woke up to 5 inches of freshly fallen snow.  It's very pretty, but to be honest, I'm over it.  After Friday, I'm ready for spring!  I did offer to shovel while Mike stayed in with the boys.  I love shoveling when the snow is light and fluffy like it was this morning.  I shoveled off the entire deck, driveway, sidewalk, and cleaned off all three cars.  My arms were sore from last night's class, but after shoveling this morning, they are now shaking.  I don't feel at all guilty about missing my Zumba class tonight.  I definitely got a work out!

Happy Tuesday!

Adam's Birthday Party

We had a nice, little party for Adam's first birthday.  Since it is winter and we can't be outside and our house is pretty small, we didn't have too many people over for the celebration.

Thankfully, my cousin Kate, drove up from Philly to be at Adam's party.  She brought her wonderful camera and photography skills to capture some priceless photos of Adam on his big day.

For dinner, we had macaroni-n-cheese (Adam's favorite), salad, and subs from Subway.  We did cupcakes instead of a cake.  The cupcakes did not look anything like I described over the phone to the bakery.  I wanted them to be blue with green polka-dots, but I think they still looked cute!
Adam was not intimated one bit by all the attention or his big cupcake!  He dug right in, although judging from his face, I think it might have been a little too sweet for him.  Owen loved every minute of singing to Adam, helping him blow out his candle, and watching him eat his cupcake.  Adam was kind to share some of his sweet treat with Aunt Beth and I :)

Adam is a lucky boy to be loved by so many people!
Anna and Uncle Jesse could not be at the party since they live in Florida, but Anna made an adorable blanket for Adam.  They also sang "Happy Birthday" to Adam over the phone.  He held his ears the entire time... haha!

Once the birthday boy was in bed, Owen put on a "Chicken Friday" concert for all of us.

We also enjoyed some post-party sledding!

Adam had a great 1st birthday!  Thanks to everyone who helped us celebrate.

Adam is 1 YEAR Old!

Dear Adam,

Yesterday you turned one year old.  I really enjoyed reading back over the letters that I wrote to you each month.  Thank goodness I have them because this year has gone by so quickly, I'm afraid I would forget so much.  You are the PERFECT addition to our family. We love you more than words can say.
Now that you are a BIG one year old, you can do so much.  Here's what you are up to:

-  You are quite the napper.  I thought you were giving up one of your naps a few weeks ago, but I think you just weren't feeling well because you are back to being a great napper.  You still take a morning and afternoon nap and both naps are about 2 hours long.  You go to bed at 7pm and you sleep till about 6 or 7am.  I can't imagine you giving up your morning nap.  You desperately need it!
-  You and Owen are best buddies.  You play so nicely together and you are very lucky to have a big brother that is patient and kind to you.  He looks after you and protects you.  We could not ask for a better role model.  Daddy and I could sit and watch the two of you play together all day.
-  You love books which makes me very happy.  You love to pick out a book and bring it to me to read to you.  Sometimes you just walk around the house with a book in your hand.  You also like to chew on them, but we are working on that.
-  You really like your pacifier (or nunner/nunny as we call it).  Now that you are 1, it must stay in your crib.  I don't think you are going to like that very much.
-  We switched you over to whole milk a couple weeks ago and you love it.  You also LOVE your bottles.  I think weaning you is going to be quite the production.  I have to admit that I really like holding and rocking you in your chair while giving you a bottle so it is going to be hard for me too.
-  You are a pretty good eater.  You have oatmeal, Cheerios, and fruit for breakfast.  You like Mac-n-Cheese, toast, chicken, noodles, carrots, peas, broccoli cheese soup, and many other things.  Your absolute favorite veggie is broccoli (just like your brother).
-  You are funny.  Daddy, Owen and I are always laughing at the silly things you do.
-  You get into everything.  I can't seem to have enough locks, gates, or baby proofing things.
-  You are very stubborn strong willed.  If we take something away from you that you aren't supposed to have or we move you away from somewhere you want to be, you are not happy and you let us know.  You arch your back and throw your head back.  You also started to hit.  I know a lot of it is that you are frustrated and not able to verbalize what you want.  Needless to say, I think we will be starting time outs sooner than later.
-  You are a happy baby and love socializing with anyone and everyone.
-  You are so snuggly and cuddly.  You lay your head on our shoulder and when we rub or pat your back you do the same to us.  It is so sweet :)
-  You love to play "patty cake" and "peek-a-boo".  Owen is trying to teach you "Ring Around the Rosie.
-  You are a big boy.  You weigh 23 lbs. 13 oz. and are 30 3/4 inches tall (just to compare... Owen was 22lbs. and 32 inches at 13 months).  You wear 18-24 month clothes and size 3 diapers.  Sadly, your very chunky, rolly legs are thinning out now that you are walking.

We love you so much and are very proud to be your mommy and daddy.
Happy birthday sweet Adam.
