Frustrated

This morning was supposed to be my 40 week doctor appointment. I was really hoping I would find out that I am progressing and maybe even try the "membrane stripping" thing again. I am getting tired of being pregnant, but just when I say that I feel guilty because I know there are many people out there that would LOVE to be pregnant and overdue. So I take it back... sort of.

We had everything worked out. My mom was coming to watch Owen so we could leave 80 minutes early to give us plenty of time to get to Lancaster. I was going to take all my bags, just in case. I figured if I had progressed far enough and was more dilated and they stripped my membranes there was a chance we would just stay and walk around Park City Mall to see if that helped start labor. I was showered and we were just about to leave when I decided to just double check that my appointment was still on for 11:40. When I called I got an answering machine that said they were closed but would reopen at 8am today, February 11th. It was 10am and no one was answering. I even tried over and over again to get through to the answering service and they were also not answering, which is not very reassuring seeing how they are the ones to connect me to a doctor should I need to speak to one. Mike finally got in touch with someone at the hospital and she said tons of patients have been calling and coming in for appointments and that the doors to the office are locked so they must be closed. She said if I go into labor to just come to the hospital. I can't imagine how upset I would have been had we driven all the way to Lancaster with dangerous roads just to find out it was closed. There was nothing on the news saying they were closed and I did not get a call telling me my appointment was canceled and there was nothing on the answering machine when I called the office to check. I was so frustrated. I just tried to call again and they FINALLY have a message saying the office is closed today and will reopen tomorrow at 8am. They better fit me in tomorrow!

Ok...I feel better. I am going to go take a nap now.

Completely off topic...

Here is a funny picture I found of Owen. I can just picture this up on a big screen one day during a sports banquet or something like that.

Still No Baby

Tomorrow is my official due date, and still no baby. I'm getting tired of waiting, but he's worth it. I enjoyed having all of last week off, but now I am ready for him to arrive, just not tonight or tomorrow because of all the snow we are supposed to get.

Today I took Owen to preschool storytime at the Annville Library. Unfortunately, storytime was canceled, but we still had a good time playing with the toys and picking out some books and movies to keep us entertained the next few days. There were a ton of moms and kids there and I was talking to one mom who said all three of her kids were late.

Owen has been doing the most adorable/funny things and I should remember to write them down. This morning we had to stop by the grocery store and the eye doctor before going to storytime and I wish I would have kept track of how many questions he asked. It had to be close to 100. I do my best to be as patient as I can and answer every one of them. While we were at the eye doctor getting his glasses adjusted he would ask, "But he doin?" "By she doin dat?" (He says his "B" sound for "W") Then he saw a Mennonite woman reading a magazine in the waiting room and he asked "By she reading?" I was just waiting and praying he was not going to ask "But on her head?" I could read his mind and I know that's what he was thinking. He is really into knowing where things come from as well. He has recently asked me where milk, eggs, oranges, water, and wood come from. I love being home with him.

Blizzard of 2010

Still, no baby. I had a feeling this could happen. My original due date was February 21st, but after measuring big and having an ultrasound they moved my due date up to Feb. 8th. After the doctors reviewed the results of my ultrasound they gave me the "official" due date of February 10th. So my actual due date is Wednesday. If this were my first pregnancy, Owen would have already been born. I feel like when they move due dates up so much, the baby ends up coming late. We will see. We were just relieved that it did not happen during the big snowstorm we had last night. Mike was VERY prepared. He made two signs to attach to his truck that said "EMERGENCY -Wife in Labor". One of the signs was even written backwards so cars in front of us could read it! He also printed off directions for delivering a baby in the car. I am so glad we did not have to use those directions and hope it stays that way!

I think we got about 18 inches of snow! Owen had so much fun playing outside and helping daddy shovel and clean off the cars. He kept telling me how much fun it is to "cwean off da cars"! I could take picture after picture of Owen all bundled up. He still has his "baby face" when he is all bundled up and wearing a hat. Tomorrow, we hope to make a snowman.

Still Waiting...

Yesterday I had my 39 week appointment and the midwife "stripped my membranes". It is supposed to help move things along and start labor, but so far... nothing. I read Online that it really only works if your body is ready to go into labor to begin with and if it does not happen within 72 hours it probably won't happen. So we will see. I keep drinking red raspberry tea in hopes that might trigger something too. Maybe he will decide to be born during the snowstorm we are supposed to get. That will make the drive to the hospital very interesting!

Meanwhile, I am REALLY enjoying being at home, catching up with friends, spending time with Owen, resting, and getting things done around the house!

Playdate

Today Owen had a playdate with his good buddy from Linda's house, "Wee-vi" (Levi). He did not want me to leave him there so I hung out with Levi's mommy while the boys played. Owen actually did much better than I thought he would. I was surprised he did not really cling to me at all and started playing with Levi the minute we arrived. They had so much fun and we hope to get the boys together again soon!

Playing with Levi's tools and work bench
Playing "Hide-n-Seek" (check out Owen's static hair)

First Day Home

I definitely enjoyed my first day home. I catch myself pausing to appreciate the moment and think that I could be at work and so thankful I am not. I dropped Owen off at daycare and was able to get a lot of things accomplished, including a nap. One of the highlights of my day was visiting my friend from work who is also home on maternity leave with her sweet baby James. He is sooooo tiny and adorable and I could have held him all day! He weighs almost 8 pounds so it was really strange to think that the baby I am carrying could be the same size when he is born! I was really hoping that holding an infant would trigger some sort of "time to go into labor" hormone, but so far, no such luck.

Tomorrow Owen has a playdate with his best buddy, Levi. I could really get used to this staying home thing!

Last Day of Work!

Today is my last day of work for at least the rest of this school year (and possibly/hopefully longer!). I am so excited to get to be a "stay-at-home mom" even if it is for just a little while. So many of my friends have had or are having babies so we have lots of play dates planned. I am excited for the time at home to do more activities and projects with Owen. Since he will be going to Linda's house twice a week I will still get plenty of bonding time with our new little guy, which I can't wait for as well! I had to turn in my computer so my only computer access will be Mike's computer in the evenings when he gets home from work. At first I was bummed about that, but I think it will be good. If I had a computer here I would spend time Online when I should be spending it with my kids (or cleaning up after them). Now all I need is to have this baby!

I wonder if he will look like Owen.

A Baby Shower!

The students in Mike's after school program had a baby shower for him today. It was so nice of them! They made a poster with pictures of Mike when he was a baby. They had cupcakes, gifts, and a really funny game where they had to taste test different baby foods and guess what they were- YUCK! They even had a gift for Owen which was so thoughtful!

Attachment

Owen is going through a big attachment phase. He is very attached to me. I think if I would let him sit on my lap with his blankie and suck his thumb all day long, he would. He is constantly saying he wants to snuggle with me. It is so sweet and I love all the cuddling, but it concerns me a bit seeing how any day now my snuggle time will be split in half. Today, at Linda's, they told me he cried for over half an hour because he wanted his mommy :(

I am writing down these "little" (although not to a two year old) things because I know one day when he is a teenager and wants little to do with me I will enjoy looking back and reading about how attached he once was. I enjoy being the center of his small world right now because pretty soon it will be sports, friends, and girls.

Ready to POP!

Here I am at 37 and a half weeks...
