Friday Fun

Aunt Beth came home this weekend for our cousin's bridal shower and Owen's birthday. He was very excited to see her and Eric! We ended up playing outside, having a campfire, making Smores, and playing washers. Tomorrow morning we begin swimming lessons at 8am at LVC. I hope Owen loves the pool as much as he did this summer. I better get some sleep!

An Early Birthday Gift

Tonight, after having dinner, PaPa, Kimmie, and Mel decided to give Owen his birthday present a little early. He loved it! We knew he would. Owen loves when PaPa takes him for rides on his John Deere mower and now he has his very own John Deere Gator! I have to admit, I was a little nervous and I think he should probably wear a helmet. He fell out once and luckily PaPa was right there to catch him. He's still getting the hang of steering and pushing the pedal at the same time. It was very entertaining watching Mike and his dad- it was a two person job. One person had to steer and the other person had to push the gas pedal with a pole.

A Few Firsts

Today Owen had two firsts....
1- He did his first unassisted somersault
2- We had our first campfire with Owen (in our backyard)

I tried to get a picture with Owen smiling normally, but every time he sees the camera he overdoes his smile (as you can see).

Owen is talking up a storm! Just a couple months ago I was starting to worry that he might have a speech delay which could be from having 9 or 10 ear infections in his first year of life. I decided to wait until his 2 year check up to mention anything to his doctor and I am glad I did because he is talking so much now and even speaking in sentences. I just love the fact that we are beginning to have small conversations. He is starting to be able to tell me bits and pieces of what he does at Linda's house every day. I can't wait until he starts to say funny things and I will be sure to write them all down!

Afraid of Heights

It was very nice today so we decided to take Owen to the playground. When we arrived, he began to climb to the top of the jungle gym, but halfway up he looked down and froze. He started to shake and get upset and would not move his feet. He was terrified. This happened the other night when we went to our friend's house for dinner and he climbed on top of their swing set. We did not think much of it at the time, but tonight we realized he is afraid of heights. I think this is just another phase he is going through (by the way... the refusing to go to bed phase is gone!...for now), but Mike thinks it will stick with him and we should rethink our plan of getting him a swing set with a tree house for his birthday. I felt badly for him because I knew how much he wanted to climb all over the place like he did before, but he was just so scared. He climbed up and went down the slide a few times, but he wanted one of us up there with him while he held onto us for dear life. We still had fun and enjoyed being outside in the warm weather!

Farewell to the Bumbo

Today Owen officially said goodbye to the Bumbo. We have gotten a ton of use out of it! They are made for children ages 3- 14 months and Owen will be 24 months on April 2nd. So, until next time.... goodbye Bumbo.

The first picture is Owen at about 3 months. He LOVED that dinosaur. The second picture is him at 23 1/2 months. Anytime he sees the camera he overdoes his "cheese" just a bit!

Today's Events...

- While Mike and I went to church this morning my mom took Owen along to the grocery store. I don't like taking Owen to church because I don't want to put him in the nursery. He is usually good for the first half of the service and even if he's noisy it does not matter because the band is pretty loud. However, by the middle of the service he is bored and does not understand why he has to be quiet. Mike or I usually end up taking him to the nursery, but don't feel comfortable leaving him there with people he does not know. By the end of church we are both playing in the nursery with Owen and all the other toddlers which defeats the purpose of even going to church. It would not bother me so much to leave him there if I was a stay-at-home mom, but I leave him at daycare 5 days a week, I just can't bare it another day. Once he is 3 I will put him in the Sunday school class for 3 and 4 year olds.
- We did some rearranging today. We took Owen's train table that Papa Steve made him down to the basement in his play room. It is so big and it took up a lot of space in our dining room. Then, we brought the dresser from the baby's room (that's what I call the spare bedroom) down to the dining room.
- After Owen's nap we went to PaPa and Kimmie's house for dinner. Kim made delicious crab pasta and as you can see from the picture, Owen loved it! He also enjoyed playing with PaPa's trains. It is one of his favorite things to do!

A Day with Friends

Today I took Owen to Paramount to play in the Kidmazium and the preschool gymnastics room. His friends Aiden, Hannah, and Samantha were there too! He had a great time. The Kidmazium was a little overwhelming, but he gave it a try. After his nap we went over to the Szajda's house for dinner. Owen had fun playing with Tyler, who is just a few months younger. After dinner we went outside and the boys went for a Go Cart ride. Mommy was nervous and by the look on Owen's face when he got back from the ride... he was too!

A Few of My Favorites

I am trying to organize my pictures and I just deleted all the pictures from our camera. There were two pictures of Owen when he was born that I still had on the camera. I just could not bring myself to delete them. There were a couple other cute pics that I thought I would post. I need to figure out how to add captions to my pictures and how to arrange them better. Right now it is really hard for me to put the pictures where I want them to go. Any ideas how to do that? I know I am only speaking to the 2 or 3 people that read this (haha)!

What a week!

This has been quite a week. It started out rough, but ended much better! Owen was still sick on Monday so Mike stayed home with him. He was not really himself for a few days after that, but is finally back to "normal". However, we think the Terrible Twos could be starting. All week we battled at bedtime which was never an issue. He is now trying to stall when it is time to go to bed and then sits at the top of the steps against the baby gate crying because he does not want to goto sleep. We never had this issue before. We would tell him it was time for bed and he would go right up the steps, brush his teeth, read a book, and hop into bed. I think it could just be another phase that he will eventually grow out of.

It was a beautiful weekend so we spent a lot of time outside! My sister (Aunt Beth) was home this weekend and Owen just loves playing with her and Eric (herbf). They picked him up from Linda's house on Friday and played for a while.

On Saturday, Owen dug in the dirt, mowed the grass with his play mower, rode his bike to the playground, played in our yard, and washed his Matchbox cars while daddy washed his truck.

Owen desperately needed a haircut. Mike has been cutting his hair lately because when I take him to the hairdresser he cries hysterically and it is very traumatic. My mom and I decided to give the hairdresser (Tam) a try again. We told Owen that after he gets his "big boy" haircut he would get to have a ride on Papa Steve's tractor. He liked the idea. So we got to the hairdresser and Owen had the chance to watch Tam cutting other peoples' hair. This was good because Owen could see that they were just sitting still, not getting upset. He really enjoyed playing with the toys while we waited our turn. It was finally his turn and we tried to see if he would sit by himself on the chair, but that did not work. I had to sit with him on my lap which is not fun because even though I wear a cape, little hairs still make their way all over me and down my shirt and I am itchy until I take a shower. Well it started out well (as you can see in the picture), but half way through he lost it. I think he was most upset about the hair getting all over him. All in all, he did well. Much better than last time because he usually cries the entire time. He looked so handsome and no more mullet!

After the haircut we headed over to Papa Steve's house for a tractor ride. He loved it! By the end of the day he was exhausted (as you can tell in the picture)!

Today, Sunday, we woke up and my parents came over for breakfast. My dad made SOS and Mike made homefries. It was delicious! After that, we headed outside to play. I noticed some of my flowers are starting to make their way up through the ground. We planted A LOT of flowers and bulbs last fall so I can't wait to see what it looks like when everything blooms! Owen and Mike went to the playground and Owen's good friend, Aiden, was there with his dad. They had a great time playing together.

This weekend was MUCH better than last weekend. What a difference a week can make!

Sick.

This weekend was one of the worst! As soon as I dropped Owen off at Linda's on Friday she called to tell me he threw up and so I turned right around and went back to pick him up. Ends up 6 other kids were out that day with the stomach bug. He was very sick all weekend with diarrhea and throwing up. I felt so badly for him. Yesterday he seemed to be getting better, but then got a little worse today. Hopefully tomorrow he is feeling much better! I was very sick Saturday, but after throwing up I felt a little bit better. Mike is not feeling that great now. I won't post any pictures because the only ones I would have is of the three of us camped out in the living room looking really pitiful. I don't think I can watch another episode of Barney or Elmo!

I am ready for spring so we can open up the windows, air out our house, and play outside!
