Country Bumpkins

One of my favorite things about the summer is going to the 4-H Fair at the end of July. We usually go really early in the morning. It's my favorite time to go because it is not too hot and we avoid the crowds. We get to watch them feeding, bathing, and giving hair cuts to some of the animals too. This morning we took the boys over for a short visit. They loved looking at the pigs, cows, sheep, goats, bunnies, and roosters. Although the roosters are probably Owen's least favorite and have been since he was a baby. He says they hurt his ears.Owen had fun trying out the different tractors.
Oh, how I love boys.
ps- They did it again! They told me I had to choose a new background for my blog because they are getting rid of the one I had. Ugh! Hopefully they are done messing with my backgrounds!

My Huckleberries

Adam and Owen have been doing some funny/noteworthy things lately that I wanted to write down to remember.

Owen recently started insisting that he pick out what he wears each day. This has been a little difficult for my anal personality. I enjoy choosing his outfits and making sure he matches. Owen almost always wants to wear a soccer shirt or a Toystory shirt. Today he had on a navy blue soccer shirt and royal blue athletic shorts. As much as it bothers me to see him clashing, I think it is important to let him pick out his clothes if that is what he wants to do. I told him that I get to pick out what he wears when we go somewhere nice or out to eat. I admit that I have thought about what people think (about me) when they see him in his mismatching outfits, but I am over it. He is developing his identity and I want to be as unintrusive (spellcheck says that is not a word?) as I can.

Owen is also into playing "confuction" (construction). I played with him once and now he must think I'm a pro confuction worker because he is constantly begging me to play with him.
It seems Owen is getting over his fear of heights. In the past, he had a hard time even climbing to the top bunk without shaking and practically having a panic attack, but recently he has asked to go to the top bunk to read books with me and even to sleep! Yes, he took his first nap on the top bunk this week and liked it so much that he slept up there that same night. He wanted to sleep up there again last night, but woke up in the middle of the night asking to go back down to the bottom. Mike also took the bed bar off his bed this week which made me a little sad. He is growing up so quickly!

Adam has been doing some funny things lately too. He gives lots and lots of kisses all the time. I think we kiss him so much that he thinks he is supposed to suck on our cheek. If I am holding him he will grab my head and bring it to his face and give me a big, wet, open mouth kiss on the cheek. It's very cute.

Adam is also sitting up really well, rolling all over the place, and starting to crawl (Army style) to get things he wants. It is time to baby proof our house! He is such a happy baby. Everyone is always commenting on how happy he is almost ALL the time. He is so smiley.

Way Back Wednesday

As you can see, Owen was (and still is) a big fan of watermelon! These pictures are from our first summer at our new house. Owen was about 15 months old.

A New Look

I got a message today saying that my blog background will go away this Friday. I have no idea why, but I guess I need to find a new background. The site I used for my old background is not working so I went with a new site, but I don't really like it. So until I have the time to redo it, I guess this will have to do. I really miss my old blog background.

Update... I found a great site that has really neat blog backgrounds. I had a really hard time choosing. I still need to play around with some of the colors- I can't get the purples to match. But this will do for now.

Party Animals

This weekend we went up to Raystown Lake. I was originally planning on staying home with Adam and Mike was going to take Owen up so they could spend the weekend with Papa and Finney. However, as the weekend approached I started to second guess my decision to stay home. I was looking forward to a quiet weekend here, getting some MUCH needed sleep, and cleaning and organizing our house, but I knew I would really miss Owen (and Mike) and I was afraid I would regret not going. Lately, I have had the WORST time making decisions! I think I am driving Mike a little nutty. Anyway, I decided I was not going to go and they left and I was getting ready for a dentist appointment when Mike called and said they were coming back to get Adam and I. Luckily they were only in Hershey. So they came back home and waited for me to pack, and get back from the dentist, and then we all piled in the truck and went up to Raystown for the weekend.

Friday night, Kim cooked delicious lasagna for about 20 people!! I did not take many pictures this weekend, but I did take a picture of everyone eating dinner together.
Adam did not sleep that well while we were there. Friday, he only took a short afternoon nap and went to bed early, however he kept waking up because he heard all the people outside talking and laughing. I am convinced he did not nap well all weekend because he was afraid he would miss something! Once we all went to bed he slept through the night, which was a relief.

Saturday, Mike, Owen, and Papa went out on the boat while Adam and I went to Wal-Mart. Adam was soooo tired, but refused to nap while we were at Wal-Mart. Instead, he fussed until I held him and then he smiled at every single person that showed any interest in him. I stopped at Subway for lunch and he talked and smiled at all the workers and people in line. He's a ham and loves people!!

Saturday night we celebrated Scott's 60th birthday with a huge party! There was delicious food and great drinks. Owen was very sociable and had no problem talking to anyone that would listen. We are working on conversation starters with him. For instance.... whenever he meets someone new he says something strange like, "I have a wwwwwocket (rocket)!" or "I have a Gordon movie". I am trying to teach him to say "Hello, I am Owen, how are you?" instead. It's pretty funny watching him try it out. Mike and I had to make sure we were nearby when he would strike up conversations because he usually needed a translator. He entertained us with his dance moves for a little bit too. He had to make sure to stay hydrated... it was very hot and humid. Scott was kind enough to let Owen help open his gifts. Mike asked him what he thought was going to be in the first present that Scott opened. Owen replied, "Buzz Lightyear!"
We came home early this morning and Owen and Mike are at the pool while Adam is finally taking a good nap. In fact, I would not be surprised if he slept till Thursday!

Sweet Baby Adam

Playing in the Rain

It poured most of the day yesterday so Owen and I went outside to play in the rain. The broken, yellow, duck umbrella he is holding was mine when I was little. At first he looked at me like I was crazy when I asked him if he wanted to go play in the rain and puddles. He wanted to take all his clothes off, but I made him keep his underwear on. I am always telling him to jump over and avoid the puddles, but today I was telling him he could jump IN the puddles. We splashed.
Danced
Did push-upsAnd mowed the driveway We had a great time.

Way Back Wednesday

Owen was a late teether. I was looking through his baby book today and he also got his two bottom teeth first, like Adam, however he only got them at 7 months and Adam got his at 5 months. I wrote in his baby book that I felt like everyone else his age had teeth, but him. I guess I was worried he might never get teeth! ha! So the picture above is of Owen at 7 months showing off his first two teeth :)
