Our Week in Pictures

While Mike was away in Rhode Island last week Adam and I decided to collapse his toddler bed and have him start sleeping in Owen's room.  Owen's bunk bed is much more comfortable, but I may have jumped the gun a bit.
Adam is at a rough spot as far as sleeping goes.  He still really needs an afternoon nap.  If he doesn't get one he is usually very miserable.  He whines, cries, and falls all over the place.  We definitely pay the price, however he is in bed and sleeping by 7:30pm.  That gives me some much needed down time.
Adam is an early riser, no matter how early or late he goes to sleep.  So by the afternoon he is ready for a nap and can sleep anywhere from 3-4 hours.  This boy LOVES to nap and is very good at it.  However, then he's ready to party all night.  He doesn't fall asleep until 10 most nights when he's had a good nap.  I don't like that either.

Owen has soccer camp every night this week.  The weather is cool and the humidity is low so we've been hanging out at home.  On this day they decided to paint an old board.
I've noticed when we aren't on the go, the boys tend to argue and bother each other more often.  I was ready for a break come Wednesday and thankfully it was a Linda's day!!  After dropping the boys off, I enjoyed a yummy latte.  I think Cheech was enjoying the quiet house too.
Then I went for a run.  It was the first cool, breezy day we've had in a while.  Such a great morning for a run!
See that white thing right in the middle of the picture?  That's a huge skunk that decided to roam our yard today during the day.  Not even my loud, rambunctious boys scared him away.
I got to have Ella and Sam for part of the day today while Paige took her dad to a doctor appointment.  I love when they come visit!  We tried out a new playground.  Then we went to Patches for icecream.

Adam could care less that his icecream is dripping down to his elbow, down his shirt, shorts, and all over his feet.

Adam was trying to get the goat to "sit" before he fed him some grass.

Tonight, Adam and I had fun playing outside while Owen was at soccer.

And in other news...

His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge was born this week.  What a big name for a little guy.
I love that Kate Middleton wore polka dots, just like Princess Diana wore when she stepped out of the hospital for the first time with Prince William.  I have to admit that I feel a little sad for Kate, William, and their new baby.

I have been talking to Owen a little bit about the new baby and how one day he will be their king.  We were talking about how lucky he is that he can run outside and play in the yard or ride his scooter up and down the sidewalk without anyone bothering him.  I hope they are able to give their baby as "normal" of a childhood as possible.  After all, he is a baby and I'm sure he'll scream, not sleep well, and throw tantrums just like any other baby.  There's just so much pressure put on him, even as a tiny baby, and that's sad.  I know it's a huge honor, but I don't envy them one bit.  I'll take my simple life, in my small, messy house on Pine Street any day compared to that.

More pool pics

I took some pictures of Owen during his last swimming lesson this morning and of the boys playing at a friend's pool this afternoon.  I figure in five or six months when we are having freezing cold temperatures, I can look back and remember this extremely hot weather we are having right now.
Owen is getting to be quite the swimmer.  He still needs some work on his form, but I'm pretty sure he can swim front and back stroke better than I can.
Going off the dive during his last swim class
Buddies.  Even in their very large swim class, these two always stuck together and were side by side.
Adam waiting for his class to begin.
We left swimming lesson and headed to my friend's relaxing pool.
I think Adam is giving Lauren his line.... "Hey little lady."  Not sure where he learned that.
 Cutie-pa-tootie Taylor
Those legs are about the cutest thing I've seen in a while.
Happy Friday!

Pool Daze

This week is probably the hottest week we've had all summer and I think we've spent more time in the pool than we have out of the pool.  I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Owen woke up tomorrow morning with gills and fins.  He's turned into quite the little fish!  And Mr. Adam is so close to being an official swimmer.  Today we visited three different pools.  We're so lucky to have nice friends with pools.

Both boys are doing swim lessons this week.  Owen's lesson is first, then Adam's.  I get in the water with Adam.  After that we've been eating lunch and then spending the rest of the day at the pool or going to swim at friends' pools.

Owen is really impressing me with his swimming skills.  He's learning to do the front stroke and the back stroke.  I'm equally impressed with his ability to make new friends at the pool.  My shy boy that would never approach other kids is definitely coming out of his shell.  If he sees a boy about his age with a water squirter  he instantly wants to be friends and will take the initiative to go up and play with him.  I was half-joking when I said he was going to be that kid that latches onto a family and wants to spend all day at their house and never leave.  He's kind of that way at the pool.  He will follow a friend to the snack bar and back to their towel waiting for them to come play with him in the water.  I love it.

Speaking of fish... Owen won a fish last Saturday night at the church festival.  Adam wanted one too, but instead of spending $8 to try to win another one I took the boys to PetSmart for a 28 cent goldfish.... and some shiny rocks for the bottom of the bowl, and some food, and a fancy grass thing to put in the water, and some solution to put in the water to keep them living longer.  Both fish died today :( Luckily the boys didn't seem to mind that much.  I warned them ahead of time that fish didn't live long.  I was hoping they'd last at least a week.  Geesh!

Time for my sun-burned self to go to bed.  I think I may need to wear a t-shirt in the pool tomorrow.  I can't seem to keep myself from burning no matter how many times I apply sunscreen.

Happy Summer!

Visiting Friends

Yesterday, Mike was in an Enduro Bike Race.  It was a little over an hour away and only a few minutes from my friend MB.  We hung out for a little before the race, but since I didn't really know where to go to watch it, we decided to head over to visit MB and her family.

E & A are getting so big.  I remember visiting when they were both born and it's crazy how quickly they have gone from infants to preschoolers!

Owen and Adam made themselves right at home playing with all their fun toys.

It was great catching up with MB!  Afterwards, we picked Mike up from his race and headed back home.

We're having a big heat wave this week so we'll be spending most of our time at the pool :)

A little family getaway

We just got back from a little vacation to the beach.  We weren't sure we would be going to the beach this summer, but summer just isn't summer without playing in the ocean.  Last month I was able to book a two night trip to one of our favorite hotels in Rehoboth, Delaware.
We use to go every Easter, so this was our first time going when we could actually play on the beach.  It's nice and relaxing over Easter and a lot less crowded, but it's usually too cold to really get in the water or wear bathing suits and shorts.
We stayed at our favorite hotel The Avenue Inn and Spa.  They completely redid the lobby and added on to it and it's one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at.  It's so clean and kid-friendly.
Every night from 5-7 they have wine and cheese in the lobby.  At 8pm they have home-made chocolate chip cookies.
They have a heated indoor pool, but they can open up the sliding doors on one wall so it's also an outdoor pool.
There's a sauna, hottub, and a spa (a wonderful spa!!).  Every morning they serve a big (free!) breakfast.  And then there's Lew.  He's the nice man that drives guests back and forth to the beach.  The hotel is only a block from the beach, but riding in the golf cart was lots of fun mainly because Lew made it so much fun!  He thought nothing of it when he picked us up in the rain and both my boys were dressed as the Lone Ranger.
I am usually very anti-fake gun (especially for Adam), but it was raining out and I caved.

We really enjoyed our time together as a family!
