Cancelled appointments
I had to cancel Owen's dentist appointment this morning because he still has a bit of a cough and they felt it would be better to just reschedule. I also had to cancel his picture appointment because his eyes were still too red from his pink eye. Therefore he would not be visiting Santa either. I was really bummed. Even though I am now not feeling too great, I knew that we had to get out of the house or we would go nuts. So, we picked up my mom and went to the Hershey Historical Society for their train exhibit. Owen LOVED it and was sure the tell the guy running the trains exactly what to do. We spent about an hour there just watching the trains and pushing the buttons. After that we went to the outlets to look for a coming home outfit for the baby, but once again, I can not find anything I like. I did, however, get Owen a cute "Big Brother" shirt. Owen was a good sport while we shopped and I think all that walking wore him out! Then we headed to Red Robin for lunch. My mom was able to keep Owen awake on the ride home and now he is napping in his bed. Now, what will we do when he wakes up?...

Post-Thanksgiving Post
We had a very nice Thanksgiving day. Mike, Owen, and Nana Way did a 5K in the morning while I stayed home and got things ready. Here's our little runner.

We went over to Papa and Finny's house around 11 for a very yummy lunch. Owen ate so much turkey, corn, and rolls. He had been up a lot coughing the night before so between running almost a mile of the 5K, being up the night before, and eating a big turkey dinner, he was ready for a long nap. He slept for about 3 hours when we got home. Once he got up he was still full from lunch so he did not eat that much. We had my parents, Mike's mom, my sister, and Eric over for dinner. It was my first time having Thanksgiving dinner at our house. Our dining room is tiny, but we managed to get everyone in. Mike set up a longer table so we could all eat together. I was excited to finally be able to use the white Pottery Barn linens that Paige got us for our wedding!
After dinner, I got out a gift that was supposed to be for Owen for Christmas. I got him Chutes and Ladders. I am so excited to start playing board games with him and I thought he would really enjoy it so I let him have an early present. He did very well and he loves to play it. In fact, when I got home from the store earlier today he was playing with daddy.
Friday I spent the day scrapbooking with my friends. It was so nice to get together with them and talk, eat, and scrapbook. I am FINALLY finished with Owen's book (from his 1st year) and now I am working on the baby's scrapbook. I am only doing scrapbooks for their first year. I am not that creative and I feel like my blog is enough of a scrapbook, however I do enjoy doing it. Mike stayed home with Owen who was not feeling well at all. He had been up coughing most of the night before and was starting to run a fever. Unfortunately Dr. Schaffer was not in or we would have taken him. So they just hung out at home and when I got home that afternoon we started to put up the Christmas tree. Owen was not feeling well at all so he just sat on the couch and watched.

Luckily we were able to get Owen in to see his doctor today (Saturday). He has bronchitis, a double ear infection, and pink eye in both eyes. I have never in my life seen pink eye like he has it. In fact, tonight before bed he wanted pancakes and we would normally not allow that right before bed, but he looks so pitiful that we could not say "no". This picture does not even do his eyes justice. We are wiping them as much as we are wiping his nose!
Hopefully the antibiotics work quickly. I am starting to get severe cabin fever. Owen has not been out of his pajamas in two days. Tomorrow Mike leaves to go hunting for three days and if we don't get out of the house I might go a little nuts. Owen is supposed to go to the dentist on Monday morning, then we were planning on going to Park City to get his pictures taken and visit Santa. I am not sure his eyes will clear up enough for pictures by Monday, but we will see.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Today Owen had a big feast at daycare. Everyone brought something to share. When I asked Owen what he ate at the feast, he said he had grapes and did not eat any turkey, corn, or mashed potatoes. However, he was eating a big piece of pumpkin bread when Mike picked him up. All the kids brought in a brown paper bag and decorated it for part of their Indian (or is it Native American?) costume. I had to bribe him with pudding to put it on for me tonight to get a few pictures. It is so stinkin cute!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love it because it is the beginning of the Christmas holiday season. I also like it because it is a time to get together with everyone and no one has to buy presents for anyone. I do enjoy getting gifts for Owen (and other family members) for Christmas, but other than that, I am not much into the whole gift exchange part of Christmas. I am so grateful for the gifts we get from friends and family, but I always feel like we should spend our money on kids or people that have much less than we do.
My job has its ups and downs, but I leave every day feeling grateful for all that I have. I have a house with heat, hot water, clean clothes, food, a loving husband and son, a car, a yard, health insurance... I could keep going. The kids I am surrounded by each day have so little. A boy in my class told me this week that he, his brother, sister, and mom are homeless. I could go on and on about the sad stories that come with almost every student in my class. Just when I feel like we don't have much, I look at my students and realize how much we really have. It is definitely an eye opener. Thanksgiving is not about the turkey (fried or baked!), desserts, and other delicious food, it is about being thankful for everything we have. I hope one day Owen is able to understand that. I'm sure he will.

Owen's New Trick
On Friday night, Owen ran upstairs eager to show me his new trick. He and daddy must have been working on it in the basement.
He was able to do forward rolls at gymnastics on the wedge mat, but never without the mat!

Blogging Rut
I have been in a bit of a blogging rut lately. Nothing too exciting to write about- I guess that is sort of a good thing!
This past weekend was pretty uneventful. On Saturday, Mike and I went to see the movie Couple's Retreat. We liked it and both agreed we'd give it a 7 out of 10. It was nice to get away and see a movie. Owen stayed with my mom and took a nap at her house since we went to the 12:05pm show. You know you are getting older when you go to the 12:05 showing!
Yesterday I had my doctors appointment. I had the glucose test to check for gestational diabetes, which is no fun. You have to chug a ton of sugar water, wait an hour, then get blood drawn. While I waited to get my blood drawn, I had my monthly appointment and everything looks/sounds great! The midwife could feel the baby's head is up. This baby seems to be head up a lot more often than Owen ever was! I feel kicking WAY down low rather than up high, which is strange. She said he still has time to turn around and stay that way before they get concerned. His heartrate was pretty high after she grabbed his head and scared him (158 bpm). He has been EXTREMELY active! I can't believe I only have 12 more weeks left! I now drive to Lancaster every two weeks for my doctor appointments and then four weeks before my due date, I go every week.
Nothing else too exciting happening here!

A Pound
This morning, I was sitting down with Owen while he was eating breakfast and the baby was really kicking. In fact, it was a little painful because he is now kicking my ribs. So I had my shirt up over my belly watching him kick and Owen was rubbing my belly and patting it. Then he said, "I give him a pound" and he makes a fist and gives his brother a little "pound" on my belly. It was so cute!

Leekybuk
Owen loves to draw on his Magnadoodle. The other night Mike and I noticed this strange picture Owen had drawn. I won't say what Mike thought it looked like, but it made us laugh. I told Mike that was not the first time he had drawn that same thing. The day before he drew almost the same exact picture a couple times. This is what it looked like (image on the right)...
The next day I asked him what it was and he said, "A leekybuk" and it all made perfect sense. It's a LADYBUG!!! I love this age.

Weekend Wrap-Up
We've had a pretty uneventful weekend. Mike left early Saturday morning to take a group of kids from his after school program camping. Owen and I went grocery shopping, out to lunch with my parents and Aunt Judy, and then took a long afternoon nap. Afterwards I dropped Owen off at my parents so I could run some errands without constantly taking him in and out of his car seat. It is not as easy when he is bundled in a winter coat! This morning we just played and then my mom came over and took Owen along to the grocery store. While they were away I started putting out some Christmas decorations. Mike does not like that I start decorating so early so I usually do it when he goes away :) When they got back from the store I took Owen to gymnastics. He loved it (as usual).
He ran, and ran, and ran from one thing to the next. I love the look of determination on his face.
He did somersaults by himself down the wedge mat over, and over, and over again.

He did some kind of funky made-up move on this thing.
He swung from the rings.
He bounced on the trampoline.
He jumped in the ball pit over, and over, and over again.
He slid down the slide, head first, into the ball pit and smiled, and giggled, and laughed.
Then, we ate lunch and played some more.
Until.... it was time to come home to take a looooong nap.

Student of the Week
Owen was chosen to be "Student of the Week" this week at daycare. He is very excited because all week he gets to be line leader. Owen is just dying to be line leader (so I am told by Linda). Even at home, when he and I are both going up the steps, he wants to be line leader. We had to fill out a poster with his picture, pictures of things he likes and doesn't like, what he wants to be when he grows up (a fireman), and a hand-drawn picture of his family. We also had to fill out information like how much he weighs, his height, hair color, age, and his three wishes (which he said are pudding, fruit snacks, and blue toys). This project took a lot of time, but it was fun. Here's a picture of Owen with his poster. It was hard to get a good picture- he kept moving.
