Once he was awake he was not acting quite like himself. He did take a dip in the lake, but it was really cold, so he was not in for long. After that he was just really clingy and would not let me put him down. He still seemed really tired so we headed in. Once we got back to the trailer (although I would not call it a trailer, I guess it is a mobile home) I took him temperature and it was back up again. I was starting to get worried because he had had a fever off and on for over a week. I was really hoping he was getting better. I gave him some Tylonel and it helped to bring his fever down. He did not have a great night sleep though. I heard him coughing off and on all night and he was up at 5am. Poor guy.

Weekend (Saturday)
Saturday morning we got up and Papa made his usual delicious french toast which Owen enjoyed. Then we headed out to the boat around 11ish. Owen was excited to go for a ride on Papa's boat, but he nearly missed the entire thing because he was asleep on me before we even got out of the no wake zone. There's something about the sound of the water and motion of the boat. It puts him to sleep every time! We managed to get him into the cutty of the boat where he slept for another two hours. At one point during his nap he started to wake up so Mike's dad took the boat for a spin and he went right back to sleep. The lake was busy and bumpy and I could not believe he was sleeping through all the bumps! It was wonderful to be able to relax in the sun while he slept, but eventually we were anxious for Owen to get up so he could enjoy the boat and the water.

Weekend (Friday)
Owen felt much better on Thursday night after he had a dose of medicine (steroids) in his system. He slept much better and was only up once in the middle of the night. He woke up without a fever and almost back to his normal self. He still did not have much of a voice, but it was improving. We decided to head to Raystown around 1:00pm hoping he would sleep most of the way. He only ended up sleeping for half an hour, but was content and quiet the entire trip other than a few coughing spells. Once we arrived we attempted to give him his second dose of medicine, but he hates the taste of it and gagged and spit it out so we don't think he got too much. He was a little "edgy" Friday evening, but we blamed it on the medicine and lack of sleep. He slept really well Friday night and so did mommy and daddy.
Here's a picture of Owen sitting in his chair at the trailer. It is the perfect size for him and it matches the sectional sofa. There is also a matching mini sofa on the loft.

Croup
We were very close to taking Owen to the ER last night. He was wheezing and having a lot of trouble breathing. He eventually was able to settle down and sleep, but today was rough. Dr. Schaffer was only in at 1:30 today. After a very traumatic ride to Hershey to see him for the second day in a row, Dr. Schaffer diagnosed Owen with Croup and prescribed a steroid and he is already MUCH better! He did say that the Prednisone could make Owen "a little edgy and a bit more difficult to get along with". We'll see what tomorrow brings, but I'd rather that than the difficulty breathing. We're still not sure we'll be going up to the boat, but we'll make the decision in the morning.
I have a renewed appreciation for parents of sick children. We only had to deal with it for a few days. Imagine what parents go through with a child who has a life threatening condition or is terminally ill....
Hopefully my next post will be more positive!

Sick Baby, Scared Mommy
Owen is sick. It started with a runny nose about a week ago, then turned into a low grade fever, then turned into a horrible chest cold. Mike was off yesterday and today with him. He took Owen to the doctor today and they sent him for chest X Rays. They came back fine- no pneumonia (sp?), but he seems to be getting worse. He's so tired, but keeps waking up every 10 to 15 minutes coughing and it is painful for him to cough so he gets scared and starts to cry. It's awful. I don't plan on sleeping much tonight. His fever is 101, but we have to keep checking it. Owen is going to stay with Bob and Kim tomorrow. We are supposed go to Raystown Lake this weekend, however if Owen still has a fever and bad cough we will be staying home.
Mike was disappointed that he had to miss Jesse's ceremony today, although he was glad to be able to spend time with Owen. He was planning on going down to Philly and surprising him, but had to stay home because I could not miss work. Congrats Jesse!!

Two videos
Here are two videos I took of Owen tonight. The one is of him playing with his choo choos. The other one is of him singing a song about Mommy, Daddy, and his friend Aiden. He gets a kick out of watching himself on the videos.
No More Tears
Once again, Owen desperately needed a haircut. His hair grows like weeds and the bed head was becoming out of control. Luckily they were able to get him in right away and my mom was able to go along since it requires two people. One person holds him and gets covered in hair. The other person tries to distract him and feeds him snacks. I was very weary at first because he was clinging to me the moment we arrived and his bottom lip was quivering. I could tell he wanted to cry, but was trying not to. He's been doing that lately, and it breaks my heart! He decided he wanted Lala to hold him this time so she took one for the team and got covered in hair. He did great! He realized haircuts don't hurt and by the end he was even smiling and dancing. We kept telling him that his haircut looks so nice and daddy will just love it. Hopefully he is over his haircut anxiety, but you never know what next time will bring. After the haircut we went to the playground to play before dinner.

Mother's Day
We had a nice weekend. The weather was great, but windy. Beth and Eric were home for a visit which made Owen (and I!) extra happy. We had Olivia's birthday party yesterday and today we went to the horse show. We watched toads enjoying each other in Aunt Judy and Uncle Boo's pond and laying TONS of eggs.
Mike and Owen got me a pear tree for Mother's Day. We really wanted and needed a tree in our front yard, but were not planning on getting one this year, but Mike surprised me! I love it. It's a very special gift and I will enjoy watching it grow!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!!
Celebrating Cinco de Mayo has become a family tradition. Last year the weather was beautiful and we celebrated by eating Mexican food and drinking some Coronas. We played music and watched Owen dance all around the deck. This year, the weather was chilly and rainy so we were not quite in the spirit.... or so we thought!
My cousin, Jesse, came over around 7 to go for a run with Mike, but it started pouring so they decided to make margaritas instead. Aunt Judy and Maddie came over to join in the party. Owen ate so much spicy salsa and chips until I finally cut him off. I hope he does not wake up with a belly ache tonight. We played Mexican music and had a great time! Sometimes the spur of the moment parties are the best. I have a few pics that I will post tomorrow. My camera died so I only got one or two pictures of Owen devouring the salsa and chips.

Bad dreams...
Recently we have heard Owen whining, whimpering, and almost crying in his sleep. It is the saddest thing. His little bottom lip quivers and he is just so sad. We know he is having a bad dream, but I'd love to know what is going on in his head. Mike and I think it must have to do with choo choos (maybe they are wrecking?). Then, last night he got up out of bed while he was sleeping and then got back in. We are really careful now about keeping the gate locked at the top of the steps as I think he got the "sleep walking and sleep talking" gene from his daddy. Mike said his started around the same age.
Two nights ago I woke up to Mike sitting straight up in his bed saying, "What is that? What the F*** is that!?" and it scared me half to death. I just stayed really still and told him to lay down and go back to sleep, even though I knew he was sound asleep. The night before that he fell asleep on the couch and before he came up to bed he took his shorts off in the office and had no recollection of it the next morning. I could go on and on with sleep walking/talking stories where Mike is concerned. I just hope Owen does not get that bad or we will have to install an alarm on his bed.

A Rainy Weekend
Nothing too exciting happened this weekend as it rained most of the day on Saturday and Sunday. We took naps both days and went to bed early so we are well rested! Saturday morning we went up to the Hershey Outlets to get Owen some summer clothes, sandals, and a hat. He desperately needed a hat and I could not find one anywhere around here that I liked. This morning Mike and I went to church while my mom watched Owen and then we went over to Kim and Bob's house for some delicious food. I did not mind that it rained all weekend. It was nice having a laid back weekend with nothing much to do and no where we had to be. I think Owen enjoyed it too!
