Adam Update

Adam is doing much better today!  Friday and Saturday he was in pain and wouldn't do anything but sit on the couch.  He preferred to sit on my lap which meant I didn't do much but snuggle him for two days.  Thank goodness the weather was nice so we could go outside for walks around the block every now and then.  I'm also thankful my sister was home visiting.  She and my mom were a big help with the boys.

I think I was more depressed about his broken leg than he was!  I kept encouraging him to sit on the floor and play with some toys, but he would cry every time I tried to put him there.  So we spent lots of time on the couch.  Finally, Saturday night (during my mom's 60th birthday pizza party), we got a game out that interested him and he sat on the floor and played.  I was very excited.  He even attempted to crawl a little to get a toy.  Another improvement.  I definitely don't want him walking on his leg at all, but I couldn't stand watching TV and reading books all day long.  I wanted him to play.

Then, this morning, he started crawling all around the house.  He even walks on his knees sometimes.  He's attempted to put some weight on his leg and try to stand, but quickly realized it is not a good idea.

I think all his activity from today caught up with him because he was in a little bit of pain tonight.

Mike was supposed to go hunting Sunday through Tuesday, but decided to stay home.  Thankfully he'll be home with Adam on Monday and Tuesday.  I am really hoping he can get into the orthopedic doctor tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest.  Part of me would really like him to have a hard cast.  I don't think he'll be at daycare this week, but when he does go back, I am afraid another kid will accidentally fall on his leg and really hurt him.

So that's all for now.  Sorry for the lack of pictures.

Thanksgiving

Wednesday night (the night before Thanksgiving), Mike had his 15 year class reunion.  We were on the fence about whether or not to go, but decided to go when we found out that Paige was going to come up for it.  A few hours before the reunion, Mike was outside trying to take care of a skunk that he accidently trapped.  Well, the skunk must have sprayed and Mike was down wind and got some second hand spray from the skunk.  Don't really blame the skunk.  He took two showers and thankfully, didn't stink for his reunion.  Although that would have made it funny :)  After the reunion, we attempted to go out to a local  bar/restaurant, but after taking one step inside the place, we decided it wasn't our scene.  It was jam packed and the "kids" were almost young enough to be our own kids.  Craziness.  So I drove our old selves home so we could go to bed.

We had a great Thanksgiving.  Delicious food and a nice time with our families.
Mr. Owen, sitting at the head of the table, waiting for his feast.
Beth and Eric were home :)   Holidays are much more fun with kids! I didn't take many pictures because I was too busy eating.
My mom and I decided to join the midnight shopping nuts on Black Friday.  However, we only woke up at 3:30am instead of midnight.  We went to Target and Kohl's and I'm almost finished with my Christmas shopping.

This morning we had our new tree put in.  Mike wanted a mature tree so it's almost as tall as our house which made it very tricky.  The boys loved watching the bulldozer digging the big hole.  I miss our old tree, but I can't wait to see how pretty this tree looks in the spring and fall!

Right before nap time Mike and I decided to get the Christmas decorations out of the attic.  Owen and Adam were playing in the basement.  I had just moved the train table down to the basement to make room for our tree.  All of a sudden Owen runs upstairs and tells us that Adam fell off the train table.  We rushed downstairs and sure enough he had fallen and I could tell by his cry that it was not good.  Usually it doesn't take long for him to stop crying when he falls, but he just kept crying.  He was also holding his foot.  When we tried to put him down to walk he couldn't put any weight on his foot.  Thankfully we have family close by.  Uncle Boo, my mom, and sister came over to help with Owen while we took Adam to the ER.  He was so exhausted from crying so much that he fell asleep on me while I held him in a wheelchair.  After getting X-rays it was determined that he broke his tibia (shin bone).

It was a clean break, thank goodness.  They put a soft cast on it and hopefully we'll be able to get in with the pediatric orthopedic doctor on Monday.  I'm not sure if he will get a hard cast or not.
Poor guy.  He wanted to be held the entire night and he mostly wanted me to hold him.  I have a feeling we'll be holding him a lot in the next few days.  I tried to get him to crawl, but he wouldn't.  I think once it's not so painful he will crawl around.  The next few weeks will be tough, but it could have been worse.
Adam was showing us what hurt.
Owen gave a reinactment and said that Adam climbed onto the sofa and then jumped from the sofa onto the train table and then jumped off the train table.  A couple months ago we did away with our baby gates (except for the one at the top of the step).  Adam pretty much has free range of the house and can play anywhere.  I guess we'll have to be more careful.  I'm not used to this because Owen rarely climbed on anything and if he did, he was too scared to jump off it.
Can you see the crack?
I have a feeling this won't be Adam's last visit to the ER for a broken bone.  The boy has no fear and because of that, I'm going to have gray hair by the time I turn 35.

A Teepee and Thomas

If you asked Owen to tell you the best part of his weekend, he'd probably say...

Building a Teepee with daddy

And visiting Thomas the Tank Engine!

And I bet if you asked him his least favorite part of our weekend, it would be "mommy making us pose for pictures again".

Yes, we tried AGAIN for a good Christmas card picture.  At this point, my standards and expectations are very low.

All I want is for both boys to be looking at the camera, in close proximity to each other,  and appear to be somewhat happy.  That's it.

But a certain little 21 month old was in a mood (again) and would not cooperate (again).  I may not be sending out Christmas cards this year so don't be offended if you don't receive one.

In the past, I didn't believe in the terrible two's, but I'm changing my mind.

I am looking forward to a short work week, spending some QT with my boys, and hopefully finishing my Christmas shopping!

Family PIctures

Every year my sweet cousin, Kate, offers to take our family pictures.  I love it for all sorts of reasons, but mainly because she's good at taking pictures and I finally get to be in some of them since I am always the one taking the photos.  If you look at my blog, it looks like Mike pretty much cares for our kids by himself. I'm extremely unphotogenic so it doesn't bother me that I'm rarely in the pictures.
So Friday night I went shopping to get coordinating outfits for the boys.  That part was fun :)
Saturday morning we drove over to the Iron Furnace.  The stone buildings and architecture are really neat.
We were very prepared.... trains- check, blanket- check, fruit snacks- check, candy- check, chocolate-check, baby wipes to clean chocolatey faces- check.

We had talked to Owen the night before about how he had to be cooperative during our pictures.  He said he would and then proceeded to show us some poses.  "I know what to do mommy.  Sit like this..." and he'd show us this really cheesy pose and Mike and I would look at each other ready to die laughing.  He was very serious though.
The minute we got to our location and Kate got out the camera, Owen started to show her his poses.  OH.  MY.  WORD.  He definitely gets it from his daddy :)  And he's definitely going to be super embarrassed about this when he's old enough to realize how funny it is.  Here are some of his poses...
Anyway, I'm not gonna lie.  It was bad.  Very, very bad.  Adam was up before 5am that morning so he was as fussy as can be.  He was not feeling like hamming it up for the camera like he sometimes does and refused to do anything we asked him to do.
If we wanted him to sit, he'd stand.  If we wanted him to walk toward us, he run away.  If we wanted him to look at the camera, he would turn his head.
"Owen, please stop squeezing his head!"
Maybe would have been a good picture if I didn't have a hair in my face and Owen wasn't choking his brother.

We kept bribing the boys to sit and smile nicely and we'd reward them with a fruit snack (or 5).  We also had some leftover Halloween candy.  Bad idea.
Chocolate in hand= happy Adam
Mouth full of fruit snacks.

Fifteen minutes into our photo session, our boys were on such a wild sugar high.
This picture speaks for itself.
So after a few different spots and trying to get at least one good picture, we decided to call it quits and head home.  I downloaded the pictures that Kate took onto my computer.  She took over 200.
We MIGHT have gotten one good picture, however I don't like how I look in the picture so I probably won't send it out as our Christmas card.

I really wanted pictures of the boys together (without Mike and I), but that wasn't happening.  Adam flat out refused.
Kate was so patient and flexible and we're so appreciative that she was able to take some pictures.  I think hope next year will be better.
Owen was completely over it by this picture.
