For Christmas, my mom got Owen one of these...
We were really excited to use it, but we had to wait until the temperatures were warm enough to release our butterflies. A few weeks ago I sent away for the caterpillars and today they arrived! I was worried because they were sitting in our mailbox for most of the day and it was probably over 100 degrees in there. At first the caterpillars were not moving at all, but after a bit they started moving and being more active.
Owen and I made science journals and each day or every few days we are going to draw pictures and record what we see!
On another science note... a Facebook friend posted this newsclip about a do-it-yourself stink bug trap. I'm not sure about you, but we are constantly killing stinkbugs in our house. Today, while I was on the phone with Mike, Adam walked up and had something small between his thumb and pointer finger. He handed it to me and it was a LIVE stinkbug. I was freaked out!!! It must have been scared or else half squished from Adam's fingers because it stank! UGH! So I bought a bottle and made my own trap.
The only problem is... I bought a green bottle instead of a clear one. So, we'll see if it still works. I also want to make one for our attic because I know we have a ton up there.
I'll be sure to keep you posted on our butterflies and stinkbugs! I know you're just dying to hear more :)

Memorial Day Weekend
We had a really nice weekend! Saturday morning we met Papa, Finney, and Owen at Raystown Lake. We just hung out and visited with everyone because there was a threat of storms and we didn't want to risk going out on the lake and getting caught in a storm.
Sunday the weather was perfect and we were able to go out on the boat.
Adam only lasted about an hour, but Owen, Papa, and Mike stayed out all day long. Owen loved tubing, playing in the water, and eating lots of food.
Owen took a good nap in the boat cutty. I was fine coming back early with Adam. He took a much-needed, long nap so I was able to rest and read my book. I'm currently reading "Something Borrowed" and it's so good I hate to put it down. I hope to see the movie once I'm finished.
Monday morning we got up, had breakfast, and drove two hours back home. This weekend was the opening weekend for our pool. My mom came and stayed with Adam while he napped so Mike, Owen, and I could go to the pool. I was amazed at how warm the water was! Usually I can't even bare to stick my feet in the pool until mid-June. I guess the hot weather we've had lately has helped to warm up the water. It was nice to have a little break from chasing Adam and be able to relax and play with Owen in the pool.
Then, after dinner, the four of us went back to the pool again. It's so convienent since the pool is right down the road from our house. Adam LOVED the water almost as much as he loved playing with the other kids in the baby pool. However, I have to be on my toes at all time. Seriously, we can't take our eyes off him for even a second. No lounging by the pool and reading for me this summer. Today, I saved his life 6 times! The water only goes up to his bottom, but when he falls down he is too small to push himself back up so I jump up and run over to him and pull him out of the water. He's not really scared either, which probably isn't a good thing.
Unfortunately, I forgot my camera BOTH times we went to the pool today. I'm sure I'll have a lot of chances to get pictures of my boys swimming. Owen is super excited.... summer has officially started!

A Scorcher
Yesterday was sooooooooo hot and humid.
We broke down and put our airconditioners in once Mike got home from work. But, before he got home and our house got cool, we did what we could to stay cool.
We got out the hose, filled up the pool, ran around without clothes on (well, Owen did), and had a popsicle picnic. All good ways to keep cool on a scorching, hot day :)
Later that evening, after Adam was already asleep for the night, we had some strong storms come into our area. It quickly turned from a bright, sunny day to a very dark, stormy sky. Mike was at graduation. Owen and I were in the basement watching the news and at first we just had a tornado watch. I did not know if I should wake Adam up and bring him to the basement. However, a few minutes later it changed to a tornado warning I ran upstairs so fast and grabbed him out of his bed and brought him to the basement. The poor guy was so tired and confused and not a very happy camper. I figured I'd rather be safe than sorry and there was no way I would let him up there with a warning. Aunt Judy and Elsie ran over to wait out the storm with us in our basement. Thankfully, it didn't last long (about 45 minutes) and soon afterwards both boys were in bed for the night. It took me a while to settle down though. I sure hope we don't have many more nights like that one! I am so glad we have a safe basement to go to. I read about so many families down south that have to cram in a closet or bathroom because they don't have basements. I would be even more of a nervous wreck without our basement!
Today was Mike's last day of school (with kids). It officially feels like summer has started. Tomorrow we're off to the boat and then Monday we hope to make it to the pool to pick up our passes and maybe take a dip if it's hot enough outside! Owen left this morning to go up to the boat with Papa and Finny, but since Mike had to work, the three of us are only going up tomorrow morning. Owen was soooo excited. He's been anxious to go to the boat since last fall. When I told him that we'd be up tomorrow morning he was disappointed... he wanted Finny and Papa all to himself all weekend. Glad to know my boy misses me when I'm not around! ha!
A couple weeks ago I was having a really bad day. I was cranky and things kept going wrong. For instance, it was pouring down rain and I had to get Owen to Linda's house so I loaded both boys up in the truck and when I went to back out of the driveway, I ran into our recycling cans and they tipped over and all the recyclables rolled into the street. So there I was, in a downpour, picking up trash in the road. That's just one of the things that went wrong that day. Well, that afternoon, as I was cleaning all our junk out of the truck, a man walked up to me with a HUGE bouquet of flowers.
They were from Mike. It was very sweet and definitely brightened my day. I had to use two vases because there were so many. Well, the flowers in the one vase got old and smelly so I got rid of them yesterday. These still look pretty, so I thought I'd get a picture of them before they wilted.
Happy Memorial Day weekend!
