Now that the summer is coming to an end, Mike and I feel like there are a lot of friends that we did not get together with yet this summer or as much as we'd like to. The summer just seems to have flown by so quickly.
Yesterday, Owen and I met up with Natalie and her three kids (ages 3 and under) at the playground. It felt like the hottest day of the year and I was not dressed appropriately. I had on jean
capris and a black shirt and I about died from heat. Luckily I checked the time because we were almost late for Owen's swimming lesson at our pool. We rushed over to the pool and I quickly got him dressed. He was excited to meet his teacher.
I was so surprised at how well he did. He went right to his teacher, which I thought might be a problem, but it
wasn't at all. I might as well been in the pool with them because I stood on the very edge the entire time like a paranoid mom. His swimming teacher is in high school and he coaches at the country club. He also had a lot of swimming instruction from Mary, whom we've taken lessons from since Owen was a baby at
LVC. However, when he saw Owen he was a little surprised because he had never given swimming lessons to someone so little. His youngest swimmer is 3. Owen is almost 2 and a half so that's close. I told him Owen could swim WITH HIS LIFE VEST ON, but I think he forgot that because Owen started to drown first thing and I about jumped in because his teacher is a little laid back and waits a few extra seconds before bringing him up. He sank about 8 times and was getting good at holding his breath and not swallowing water, although he is not blowing bubbles like he has done before. Each time he sank/drown, I was afraid that it would scare him and he would be traumatized to swim, but he'd come up and say, "More, more." Owen's teacher was impressed with how much he loves the water. I was definitely needed to translate for Owen because his teacher had a hard time understanding what he was saying at times. At one point, out of nowhere, Owen said to his teacher, "Tony
wif his mommy and
daddy," and his teacher had no idea what he was talking about so I had to briefly explain. We are going back for another lesson tomorrow. He is going to bring goggles for Owen and have him hold his breath and look how many fingers he is holding up under water. I had to tell him that Owen only knows 1 and 2 and possibly 3 so he can't hold up more fingers than that.
After swimming, we ate lunch at the pool, swam some more, and then Natalie and her kids came. I got to hold Lucas for a while so she could be with her other two kids. Owen just could not get enough of Lucas. He is 9 months old and such a cutie. Owen kept saying "He's cute," and giving him a ton of hugs and kisses. Then he said, "
When's my baby sister coming?" It's going to be a long 29 weeks for him.
That night we went to National Night Out. I took Owen myself because Mike had soccer. I actually thought it was Wednesday night, but found out at the pool that it was Tuesday. It was so hot. By the time I strolled Owen there, I was covered in sweat. It is such a neat event though and was totally worth it. It is put on by the local police force and EVERYTHING is free. All the food is donated from local restaurants. You name it, they probably had it. They had music and train rides. Owen got his leg and hand painted and got to jump in a bouncy thing. We
steared clear of the fish. It was nice to see a lot of people we know. After two hours we were very hot and tired and ready to come home.
This morning, Owen went to Linda's while I went to visit my friend Jill and her new baby, Tanner. He is only 8 weeks old. It was fun holding him and visiting. Tonight we are having some more friends over with their baby who was born February 20
th. Our babies will be almost a year apart!
